You have certainly heard about the shutdown of analog TV broadcasting to be completely replaced with fully digital broadcasting in February 2009 which means that older TVs will need a converter box to continue to work.
Television manufacturers predict that this change will lead to a large volume of new digital TV sales before the February deadline and, therefore, has increased production to peak levels. Increased availability combined with weak consumer spending may cause prices for flat-panel, digital televisions to drop down to unprecedented lows throughout the holiday shopping season.
Retail consumer professionals expect this price drop to begin the day after Thanksgiving, or “Black Friday,” traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year, and to continue to drop throughout the remainder of 2008. Experts say that 32-inch LCD TV sets, which currently are priced between $600 and $700, could very possibly drop as low as $350, about half the current price. Smaller sets are predicted to be the best sellers as consumers tighten their belts due to the current economic conditions.
